About the session

If you know anyone who’s worked with me before for senior pictures, they will probably tell you that my senior sessions are really casual and laid back. We will basically kick back and hang out for a few hours while I take photos. They are so much fun!! Before we start shooting, I’ll have you let me know what photos of mine are your favorite so I can get a good feel for the types of photos you’re looking for. We’ll work together to think of locations – do you want more urban, gritty shots or more classic, outdoorsy shots?

One of my biggest priorities for senior portrait sessions is to give you fresh, original photos. Part of the magic of senior portraits fades a little when you’re trading wallets with your friends and you see a handful of what looks like the exact same photo just with different people pasted into each. So even though you might not know the difference most of the time, I really strive to take clients to new locations and find new nooks and crannies in places I’ve been before.

Of course, the most important part of senior portraits is to end up with a set of photos that really genuinely represents you at this point in your life. That’s why I totally encourage people to think about their favorite things so we can try to incorporate anything important in the session. Some people want shots with their pets (cats, dogs, horses, even lizards!). Some people want shots in their sports uniforms. If you like listening to music, let’s break out your CD or vinyl collection. What makes you you?

How do I book a session?

Weekend portrait sessions are unavailable between June-November 2010 due to my wedding schedule.

Almost all of my senior shoots will be scheduled during a weekday (Tues-Wed-Thurs preferably) evening or morning. The time will vary based on the exact time of year and the sunrise/sunset times, but usually morning sessions start about 1.5 hours after sunrise and evening sessions about 3 hours before sunset.

Once we nail down a few dates that might work (in case of bad weather it’s nice to have a backup day in mind), I’ll have you mail me a portrait contract (http://emilyporterphoto.com/2010portrait.pdf) along with half of your session fee to secure your session on my calendar. The other half is due the day of the session.
