Last week I got the news that I’d won first place in the engagement portrait category of the WPJA’s recent contest. The Wedding Photojournalist Association is one I am very proud to be a part of. It’s not easy to get accepted into the WPJA since only a very small percentage of working wedding photographers are even eligible. And as an international organization, the competition is stiff for their quarterly contests. The WPJA is full of some seriously talented wedding photographers from all over the world. I’m honored to simply be a member.
I’ve never placed in any category before, but I’m always excited when the results are posted because a lot of the photos are truly remarkable and inspiring. I would have been over the moon to get 19th place in a WPJA contest.
In this age of endless wedding porn, it’s good to always remember what’s at the heart of all of it. I’m going to start posting individual photos regularly from now on so I can feature some of the moments I’ve loved from weddings we’ve shot.
This is the same couple who started the awesome, customize-your-own-bikini company, Mikini Bikini.. And a few days before this photo of them took 1st place engagement portrait, they told me that a few of my photos from our bikini shoot were on Seventeen.com!
